About Julie

Julie’s personal essays, editorials and reporting cover culture, wellness, relationships, parenting and how to lead a better life. Her work has appeared in media outlets including O, The Oprah Magazine, The New York Times, The San Francisco Chronicle, The Huffington Post, Grown and Flown, BusinessWeek and Billboard Publications. Her blog is the midlife sequel of the award winning humorist column she wrote in New York City in her twenties. She also teaches Zoom no-recipe cooking classes in a mission to inspire new joy and creativity in the kitchen. 

In a detour from writing, Julie served as founding executive director of Boston Cares, which became a nationally recognized model for community and corporate partnerships. In this role, she was a regular guest on NPR and other radio and television outlets, and recruited Secretary of State General Colin Powell to share the stage as a keynote speaker for Boston’s first-ever day of citywide corporate service.

Julie earned a B.A. in English literature from Swarthmore College and University of Michigan. Besides freelance writing and blogging, Julie is at work on a comic memoir exploring love, loss and the meaning of life. She lives with her family in Marin County, California.
